majid and mona are now enrolled at the islamic madrasah next door. majid is in his fourth grade, mona, second grade.
i am very relieved that they are now in school, at least they have things to do and they get to socialize with other kids. when i accompanied them to their first day at school, the local kids were staring at them, obviously they look different, and astonishingly more good looking than the others.
majid seems very shy though. he is in the same class with budi, the son of my maid. so i asked the teacher whether they could sit together. majid kept putting his pencil case on the table, putting it back to his folder, opening his book, closing his book, all the time. he seemed nervous. he refused his meal box that had been prepared, maybe because all the kids in the class don't carry meal box anymore. and while i introduced him to his classmates in front of the class, he slowly let go of my hand, i suppose he didn't want to be perceived weak and afraid.
his sister, mona, on the other hand, has the energy and wit of venus and sun all combined. she entered majid's classroom while i was introducing his brother, gigglingly, she gazed with enthusiasm the schools and the students, and she couldnt keep her hands off her lower tummy, she kept, like, crumpling her dress with her hands around her lower tummy.
i thought that was inappropriate. so i told her, "monaaa, hands, put it down." so looked at me, smiled, and obeyed.
then she did it again! second time, third time, fourth time!
then i said, with a rather high tone, "mona, don't do that!"
she looked surprised, she didn't say anything and hid behind her grandpa. :(
but then on our way back home, she did it again! so i told uncle, "uncle, mona keeps doing that many times, put her hands on her side." uncle looked at her, and asked her quite harshly, and then mona said something in defense.
and then uncle smiled and said, "nadia, her pants are too loose, thats why she had to hold it."
ahh...hahahaha, "why didn't you say so sweetie."
majid's class starts from 7AM and ends at 1PM. mona's class starts from 10AM and ends at 12.30PM. they go to school from monday to saturday. the madrasah teaches everything in bahasa, while mona and majid speak and understand farsi and arabic. but they are quick learners, i don't worry that much. exciting moments ahead.
